Tom’s paper on the Effects of skin tone on photoacoustic imaging and oximetry has been published in SPIE digital library. Our goal: shedding light on potential measurement biases in PAI biomarkers like blood oxygen saturation, using computational models, tissue-mimicking phantoms, and in vivo imaging. Th. Thomas conducted experiments with participants from each characterisation of Fitzpatrick skin type to determine there were more image artifacts observed with increasing melanin concentration.
